Protesting ex-servicemen staged a rally at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on on Saturday to press for “honest and truthful justice” in incorporating their demands in the orop scheme, while rejecting what the government has offered now.
“We have raised seven issues and if the government accepts them or gives us a concrete assurance on paper, we are ready to pack up and leave,” Major-General (retd) Satbir Singh, chairman of the Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement, told press persons on Friday.
The protesters listed out seven points demand, saying the Army does not have a voluntary retirement scheme and those opting for premature retirement should get the benefits; the financial year 2013-14 should be the base year and not 2013; annual equalisation of pension should be the core of the scheme and cannot be compromised; a one-man commission to deal with shortcomings is not acceptable and a committee of five, including three ex-servicemen, should be formed.
