The Left Front government in Tripura now confronts the growing ire of the state’s 1.5 lakh employees after defaulting consistently on payment of dearness allowance.
A convention of all employees associations, cutting across political affiliations, has been called on July 31 to decide on the next course of action.
On July 16, the state government had announced two per cent DA in monthly instalments for the employees as against five per cent according to slabs of consumer price index, sparking resentment among employees. This year’s first instalment in January had been only three per cent.
Another left ruled state, West Bengal employees are also lagging behind @ 27% D.A. while most of the states are paying Dearness Allowance at the Central rate.
Central government employees are receiving 35 per cent of dearness allowance as against 24 per cent given to the Tripura state’s employees.
There as another installment of D.A. is due to the central employees w.e.f. 01.07.2010 @ 9 to 10% which is to be announced in September this year and make the gap larger.
