The Supreme Court today directed all state governments to make payments of arrears of
judicial officers of subordinate courts in view of implementation of increased pay scales for them.
A Speacial Bench of Chief Justice S H Kapadia and Justices Aftab Alam and K S Radhakrishnan said state governments will have to pay 60 per cent of the arrears within three months while the remaining would be disbursed within nine months.
The special Bench, which was set up last week to hear the matters relating to infrastructure of subordinate courts, in its next hearing would examine
the issue of pension for judicial officers.
The hike in pay scales is to be implemented with effect from January 2006 as per the recommendations of apex court-appointed committee which had submitted its report in July 2009.
