Mamata Orders High Powered Committee to Probe the Incident at New Delhi Railway Station


   As directed by the Minister of Railways, Mamata Banerjee, the Ministry of Railways has set up a high powered committee to probe into the unfortunate incident which occurred at New Delhi Railway station yesterday i.e on 16th May 2010. The three member high level committee will consist of Shri Braj Mohan, Additional Member (Commercial) Railway Board, Shri S.K.Malik, Additional Member (Civil Engineering) Railway Board and Shri P.K.Mehta, Additional Director General, Railway Protection Force, Northern Railway. The committee, which has begun probe, has been asked to submit its report as early as possible.

   Earlier, the Minister of Railways has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. two lakh for the next kin of those who lost their lives and Rs. 50,000/- and Rs. 15,000/ respectively to those who received grievous and simple injuries. She has also expressed her profound grief over the loss of lives in this unfortunate incident. She also directed all General Manager of Zonal Railways to take adequate measures to prevent recurrence of any such incident in future.

  The incident of falling over of some persons due to over crowding and due to tripping of some passengers on the Foot Over Bridge (FOB) staircase/ falling of their luggage took place at New Delhi railway station yesterday. In this incident, two persons lost their lives and eight were injured. Northern Railway has already disbursed the compensation amount to the victims.
